Dearest Toni,
You were my friend, my best and only friend! We had plans to leave, to run away together,
to get out and never return. You gave me strength!
I didn’t think that we could do it but you told me that we could.
You left before me to meet me at our secret place, but they found you and beat you until
you told them that you were waiting for me. You didn’t give up easy! I think I would have!
I’m sorry! I know that you didn’t deserve the torture that you endured!
I just wanted you to let you know that I did NOT participate
in the drinking of your blood that day. You meant too much to me.
I wish we had gotten away together.
I wish that I was as strong as you were.
I loved you! I still love you and I think about you often,
especially when I see someone with eyes like yours.
Those kind, loving, big brown eyes that make my heart skip a beat.
I hope that someday if I make to heaven we can be together again.
This poem is for you my darling;
In the darkness of my childhood,
when the light was so dim,
a light appeared to save my soul,
to comfort me from them.
The light was in the form of a girl,
just a little bigger than me,
and yet her strength was tremendous,
and it set a part of me free.
I learned to love and laugh,
in our secret place at night.
I learned what a friend was.
I learned to see the light!
