Why did you turn her down like this?
Why did you choose to keep her away
from her choice to follow the Holy One
by obedience to something He has commanded?
Why did you say that you gave her more time,
when what you meant is
that she’d first apply to your standards
before you could help her grow in faith?
In what kind of world do you live
that the truth can get so much twisted around,
and that you so deeply reject
someone who loves with such purity?
But your rules seem to overrule that all;
well not in His Church
not in His worldwide family.
You have decided to turn her down;
giving her more time, only
to fulfill standards that she has not chosen
for her life.
And while she is following her Saviour
with a love much more devine
and closer to the book
that you claim to draw your standards from
– oh how in the world can you not see this! –
you are remaining in a church building
that tells you that you have done well.
I did not feel so welcome this morning
when this precious friend told me
about your harsh decision.
And I knew that that was the awkward thing
my spirit had noticed while other, likewise,
announcements had been made during the service.
I really hated the smile that tried to show with it
on your serious looking face,
for its falseness – although I didn’t know
that it was this that lay behind it.
Really I cannot understand how you could do this
and get things so much twisted around.
It griefs me deeply –
Yet I know that G’d does not turn away from her
and His acceptance is real in all things;
He has seen her longing to walk in His ways
and He will reward her for it.
